Guess what? I set up the blog!
Nils works Mon-Sat plus overtime, so that means I have quite a bit of time to myself. My first day out and about I stayed on a pretty tight grid. I basically walked in circles all day. I did one big circle involving lots of mini circles. And even though it felt like I had been all over Taipei, I had barely strayed 5 city blocks. It's kind of funny when you think about it. Anyway, it was an afternoon of getting acclimated and finding lunch. And even though there was the ultimate goal of reading at the park for a few hours, I basically just wandered aimlessly.
Lucky for me I headed into a residential area. I love urban residential
areas! I love the trees, and the parks, and the children playing at
recess. I'm a huge sucker for shaded streets and I really enjoyed wandering the neighborhood.
This little alley way heads straight to the park. How cute is this? Did the community come together and buy all those pots? There are so many plants in Taipei. It's so amazing to see. It seems a lot of people enjoy gardening. Either that or the climate makes it impossible to kill anything.
The automatic doors here are strange. Often times I can't tell the window from the door. Unlike back home it won't just open as you approach. There is usually a sensor you need to touch first. At one store I had to wait for someone to walk out because I didn't know where the door was or how to open it. How embarrassing! I just kinda pretended to look at stuff and then snuck out with the next guy. At least I know how to work around my stupidity.
In other news neither of us have been hit by a scooter yet! Although I've come close a few times. There are so. many. scooters.
It may have only been a few blocks, but seeing that everything is new it felt like a lot more than that.
